Chronology of cameras Contax
The Contax 167 MT, produced by Yashica, was the first SLR to incorporate automatic exposure bracketing (3 shots) with each shutter release, even in burst mode.
It succeeded the Contax RTS, Contax 137/139, and 159 models. Like its predecessors, it accommodates all Carl Zeiss T* lenses manufactured in Germany and, to a large extent, in Japan. The lens often mounted by default was the 50mm Planar with an aperture of 1.4. The camera presented here is equipped with an 85mm Sonnar lens with an aperture of 2.8, a beautiful portrait lens.
The Contax 167 MT features quartz-controlled electronics. It offers menus for selecting various program modes as well as aperture priority (Av), shutter priority (Tv), or full manual mode. All these choices (and their settings) are displayed simultaneously on the LED screen on the top plate and in the top part of the viewfinder.
The shutter includes a B (bulb) mode, here referred to as 'bulb' mode, which displays seconds passing on the LCD screen, up to 60 seconds. For longer exposures, the counter resets to zero after 60 but continues counting.
Film loading and rewind are automatic. The standard back of the camera has a window with a small rotating graphic indicator to show the automatic advancement of the film.
The camera can shoot in burst mode (approximately 3 shots per second). It offers a choice of 3 metering modes: center-weighted, spot, or spot metering lock.
It's noteworthy that the Kyocera brand, as the acquirer of Yashica, is featured on the bottom plate of the camera.
One of the appealing features of this camera is its battery type: standard AAA batteries housed in the base. Additionally, an internal lithium battery (with a 10-year lifespan) maintains memory information when changing batteries.
